Why total body conditioning is important for your swimming journey with Ola


Have you ever wanted to get started with swimming but didn't know where to get started and how to go about it?

Swimming is indeed one of the most fun sports in this world but it is definitely one of the hardest to master and learn.


Before you jump straight into the water and learn how to swim, I recommend starting out with land workouts and conditioning your body for the strokes.


Here is why you need total body conditioning for swimming:

  • Swimming requires the entire body to be in shape to do the strokes fluidly and smoothly.

The major muscles used in all strokes are the following:

Latissimus dorsi – known as “lats”

Pectoral muscles – known as “pecs” (used mostly during freestyle & breaststrokes)

Core muscles – help to stabilize the body and play an integral part in your position in the water.

Quadriceps muscles – known as “quads” (used for kicks)

Deltoid and shoulder muscles.

Glutes and hamstrings

Hip flexors

  • Having a conditioned body will prevent injuries in both the short and the long run.

  • With a conditioned body, you'll have a higher chance to master the strokes faster and more efficiently.
